Deep, Transformative Therapy for Lasting Personal Growth and Healing
Sometimes life’s challenges require more than quick fixes or surface-level solutions. When you’re ready to explore the deeper patterns, relationships, and experiences that shape your life, psychotherapy offers a transformative path to lasting change and personal growth.
At PIL Professional Counseling, our experienced psychotherapists create a safe, collaborative space for deep exploration and healing. We understand that meaningful change takes time and requires a therapeutic relationship built on trust, understanding, and genuine care for your unique journey of self-discovery and growth.
Understanding Psychotherapy vs. Counseling
Different approaches for different needs
While both counseling and psychotherapy are valuable, they serve different purposes and use different approaches to help you heal and grow:
Deep Exploration vs. Immediate Solutions
Counseling often focuses on current problems and practical solutions, while psychotherapy goes deeper to explore underlying patterns, unconscious processes, and historical influences that shape your current experiences and relationships.
Long-term Process vs. Short-term Intervention
Psychotherapy typically involves a longer-term commitment that allows for gradual uncovering and integration of insights. This extended process creates space for deep healing and fundamental personal transformation.
Root Causes vs. Symptom Management
While counseling might address “what” is happening, psychotherapy explores “why” – examining how your past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns influence your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
The Therapeutic Relationship as Healing Tool
In psychotherapy, the relationship between you and your therapist becomes a powerful tool for understanding and changing your relationship patterns with others in your life.
How Psychotherapy Creates Lasting Change
Psychotherapy works by helping you understand the deeper aspects of yourself – your unconscious patterns, defense mechanisms, and relational dynamics. This understanding creates the foundation for lasting change. Through psychotherapy, you can:
Uncover Unconscious Patterns
Discover how unconscious thoughts and feelings influence your behavior and relationships
Heal Past Wounds
Process and integrate difficult experiences that continue to impact your present life
Transform Relationships
Understand your relationship patterns and develop healthier ways of connecting with others
Develop Authentic Self-Expression
Learn to express your true thoughts and feelings rather than what you think others want to hear
Build Emotional Resilience
Develop a deeper understanding of your emotional world and stronger capacity to handle life’s challenges
Integrate All Parts of Yourself
Accept and integrate different aspects of your personality for greater wholeness and self-acceptance
Build Capacity for Intimacy
Develop the ability to be vulnerable and authentic in close relationships
Achieve Lasting Personal Growth
Create fundamental changes that continue to benefit you throughout your life
Depth-Oriented Therapeutic Methods
We utilize evidence-based psychotherapy approaches that facilitate deep exploration and lasting change:
Psychodynamic Therapy
Explore how unconscious thoughts and past experiences influence current behavior and relationships
Humanistic/Person-Centered Therapy
Focus on your inherent capacity for growth and self-actualization in a supportive therapeutic relationship
Gestalt Therapy
Increase awareness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the present moment while integrating past experiences
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Work with different parts of yourself to achieve greater internal harmony and self-leadership
Jungian/Analytical Psychology
Explore dreams, symbols, and archetypal patterns to understand your deeper psychological processes
Existential Therapy
Examine life’s big questions about meaning, purpose, freedom, and responsibility
Somatic Therapy
Include the body’s wisdom in the healing process, recognizing how trauma and emotions are stored physically
Narrative Therapy
Re-author your life story to emphasize your strengths, values, and preferred identity
Your psychotherapy will be tailored to your unique needs, personality, and goals. We work collaboratively to determine which approaches will be most beneficial for your particular journey of growth and healing.
The Psychotherapy Process
Psychotherapy is a collaborative journey that unfolds gradually over time.
Understanding what to expect can help you make the most of this transformative process:
1
Initial Phase
Building trust and safety while exploring your concerns and goals
2
Working Through
Deeper exploration of patterns, relationships, and unconscious material
3
Integration
Making sense of insights and applying new understanding to your life
4
Termination
Ending therapy when you’ve achieved your goals and feel ready to continue growing independently
When to Choose Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is ideal for individuals who want to go beyond symptom relief to create deep, lasting change in their lives. It requires commitment and openness to self-exploration, but the rewards can be life-changing.
Consider Psychotherapy If
- You keep encountering the same relationship or life problems despite trying to change
- You want to understand the deeper roots of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
- You're interested in personal growth and self-discovery beyond just problem-solving
- You notice patterns in your life that seem connected to past experiences
- You want to heal from past trauma or difficult experiences in a comprehensive way
- You're going through a major life transition and want support for deep reflection and growth
- You feel stuck despite having tried counseling or other approaches
- You want to develop a richer understanding of yourself and your relationships
Psychotherapy works best when you’re ready to commit to the process and open to exploring aspects of yourself that may be uncomfortable or unfamiliar. Your therapist will help you navigate this journey at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
What Amazing People Say
I’ve been working with Ashley for four years, and she has helped me more than I can put into words. When I first started therapy, I felt lost and sad but with her knowledge, compassion, and steady support, I’ve grown so much as a person. Ashley helped me learn how to navigate the unexpected and trust myself again. I’m more confident, grounded, and able to face challenges in ways I never could before. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and highly recommend her!
I have worked with Ms. Shawnta McMillon-Brown for a few years now, and I cannot speak highly enough about their service. They have been nothing but understanding and respectful in all aspects of my care. I would highly recommend their services for any sort of emotional or mental guidance. Thank you, Ms. Shawnta.
I just love Mrs. shawntà. She is a different type of therapist. I feel like I’m actually on my way to healing my past selves. I recommend her to anyone really looking for healing and understanding 🤗🫶🏽
When I hit a rough patch in life and was ordered to come here for the courts. I was upset and wasn't open to the idea but it was very needed and Ms Shawnta is amazing. I remember my 1st appt telling her I didn't need therapy and now 2 yrs later I'm doing it on my own(not court ordered)... It's nothing like having a non judgemental ear to hear you out and guide you.i highly recommend this place!
I am enjoying my experience with Sheila! It's refreshing when you can converse with someone who doesn't judge, listens, and gives you honest feedback! Since working with PIL, I am experiencing more joy and accountability from myself! Highly recommend this group!
Hands down therapist Ms. Erica is amazing therapist! I highly recommend PIL , I’m so grateful for their support and knowledge assisting my love one. PIL is a very professional facility and my love one felt comfortable and safe. Therapist Ms Erica provided outstanding strategies and coping skills for my love one. The office is very welcoming and comforting.
Once I started therapy, I felt I didn’t need it or it wasn’t necessary. It took a lot out of me to admit my feelings and take the steps to get better. Once I started my new job as a 911 call taker and I realized I still had some scars that needed to heal deep down. But happy to say I love my therapist and she’s very open with communication and everything I have to say. I would recommend this service to anybody. I really would.
I have had the pleasure of working with Ashley for a few years now. She has been consistently kind, helpful and professional during my treatment. I’m so grateful for the continued guidance/support and consequential growth.
PIL Professional Counseling is truly an amazing place. From the moment you make contact, you can tell the whole team is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment. They are professional, compassionate, and really make you feel cared for. A special shoutout to Ashley Dais, who has been wonderful to work with—she’s kind, thoughtful, and always makes me feel heard. That said, it’s clear PIL as a whole is full of counselors and staff who genuinely care about their clients. I’d highly recommend PIL to anyone looking for quality counseling with people who go above and beyond.
I have no trouble understanding the staff and it inspires me that they have accomplished so much. I’ve had a few therapists in my life, but none compares to the progress I’ve made with Marcia! I’d also like to respond to the fellow soliciting lodging complaints. I agree with your assessor. You should take the classes and try to learn something. Some things we have no control over. Innocent or guilty, the law is the law. That you expect things to go a certain way doesn’t mean they will. Accept it. And the woman, Marcia, isn’t a receptionist. She is a full fledged therapist. I’m 55 and this is my first dui. I was sitting in my car in my own driveway. You,sir, are not special. Try to put yourself in their shoes. They have to try to help ASAP clients with bad attitudes like yours. Sometimes you have to shoot from the hip. Stop being a crybaby and don’t sit in your car drunk. Live and learn and watch that displaced anger. Be safe and God bless.
Mrs. Forbidussi is amazing. She is very knowledgeable and shares that knowledge so very well. I learned so much! She is easy to talk to and really understands what people go through. I can not thank her enough!!
If you have court ordered asap or just need help with alcohol and substance abuse this is by far the only place to go they do not treat you like an alcoholic or a drug addict they teach you about life and ways to cope with things so you don't turn to drugs or alcohol I would highly recommend them
These guys have got out of the way for me, and the staff is friendly. if you see them first and you have an out-of-state DUI, there's a possibility they can help you without going to ASAP
