Professional, Respectful DOT Evaluations Focused on Your Success and Return to Work
Facing a DOT violation can feel overwhelming and uncertain, but this situation doesn’t define you or limit your future. As certified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAPs), we understand both the regulatory requirements and the human side of this process. We provide thorough, respectful evaluations and ongoing support that help you meet DOT requirements while focusing on your long-term success, wellbeing, and safe return to your safety-sensitive position.
Our partners at HVI Behavioral Health provide DOT SAP services that blend strict regulatory compliance with compassionate, professional support. Their team walks you through every step of the return-to-duty process with clarity, respect, and a genuine commitment to helping you move forward confidently.
The Department of Transportation requires specific steps following a positive drug or alcohol test or refusal to test. Understanding this process helps reduce anxiety and ensures you meet all requirements for returning to safety-sensitive duties.
Following a positive drug or alcohol test, refusal to test, or other DOT violation, you must be immediately removed from safety-sensitive duties. The SAP evaluation is the required first step toward potentially returning to work. This evaluation must be completed before any education or treatment begins.
The SAP evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that examines your substance use history, current situation, and what level of education or treatment is appropriate. This evaluation results in specific recommendations for your return-to-duty process.
Based on your evaluation, the SAP will recommend either education (for lower-risk situations) or treatment (for more significant substance use concerns). You must successfully complete these recommendations before proceeding to the next step.
After completing your recommended education or treatment, you’ll return for a follow-up evaluation to determine if you’re ready for return-to-duty testing and what ongoing monitoring is required.
A thorough, respectful assessment following your DOT violation. We’ll review your substance use history, assess your current situation, and determine the appropriate level of education or treatment needed. This evaluation forms the foundation for your return-to-duty process.
Based on your evaluation, we’ll provide specific recommendations for DOT-compliant education programs or treatment services. We work with quality providers and can help connect you with appropriate resources.
When you’ve completed your recommended education or treatment, we’ll conduct a follow-up evaluation to assess your progress and determine your readiness for return-to-duty testing and ongoing monitoring requirements.
We provide the required ongoing monitoring and support to help ensure your continued success in maintaining sobriety and performing your safety-sensitive duties effectively and safely.

SAP evaluations are required by federal law following specific DOT violations. If you’ve experienced a DOT violation, SAP services are not optional – they’re a required step for returning to safety-sensitive work.
SAP services are federally mandated and must be completed by qualified SAPs. Attempting to return to safety-sensitive duties without proper SAP evaluation and clearance violates federal regulations and can result in serious penalties.
I’ve been working with Ashley for four years, and she has helped me more than I can put into words. When I first started therapy, I felt lost and sad but with her knowledge, compassion, and steady support, I’ve grown so much as a person. Ashley helped me learn how to navigate the unexpected and trust myself again. I’m more confident, grounded, and able to face challenges in ways I never could before. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and highly recommend her!
I have worked with Ms. Shawnta McMillon-Brown for a few years now, and I cannot speak highly enough about their service. They have been nothing but understanding and respectful in all aspects of my care. I would highly recommend their services for any sort of emotional or mental guidance. Thank you, Ms. Shawnta.
I just love Mrs. shawntà. She is a different type of therapist. I feel like I’m actually on my way to healing my past selves. I recommend her to anyone really looking for healing and understanding 🤗🫶🏽
When I hit a rough patch in life and was ordered to come here for the courts. I was upset and wasn't open to the idea but it was very needed and Ms Shawnta is amazing. I remember my 1st appt telling her I didn't need therapy and now 2 yrs later I'm doing it on my own(not court ordered)... It's nothing like having a non judgemental ear to hear you out and guide you.i highly recommend this place!
I am enjoying my experience with Sheila! It's refreshing when you can converse with someone who doesn't judge, listens, and gives you honest feedback! Since working with PIL, I am experiencing more joy and accountability from myself! Highly recommend this group!
Hands down therapist Ms. Erica is amazing therapist! I highly recommend PIL , I’m so grateful for their support and knowledge assisting my love one. PIL is a very professional facility and my love one felt comfortable and safe. Therapist Ms Erica provided outstanding strategies and coping skills for my love one. The office is very welcoming and comforting.
Once I started therapy, I felt I didn’t need it or it wasn’t necessary. It took a lot out of me to admit my feelings and take the steps to get better. Once I started my new job as a 911 call taker and I realized I still had some scars that needed to heal deep down. But happy to say I love my therapist and she’s very open with communication and everything I have to say. I would recommend this service to anybody. I really would.
I have had the pleasure of working with Ashley for a few years now. She has been consistently kind, helpful and professional during my treatment. I’m so grateful for the continued guidance/support and consequential growth.
PIL Professional Counseling is truly an amazing place. From the moment you make contact, you can tell the whole team is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment. They are professional, compassionate, and really make you feel cared for. A special shoutout to Ashley Dais, who has been wonderful to work with—she’s kind, thoughtful, and always makes me feel heard. That said, it’s clear PIL as a whole is full of counselors and staff who genuinely care about their clients. I’d highly recommend PIL to anyone looking for quality counseling with people who go above and beyond.
I have no trouble understanding the staff and it inspires me that they have accomplished so much. I’ve had a few therapists in my life, but none compares to the progress I’ve made with Marcia! I’d also like to respond to the fellow soliciting lodging complaints. I agree with your assessor. You should take the classes and try to learn something. Some things we have no control over. Innocent or guilty, the law is the law. That you expect things to go a certain way doesn’t mean they will. Accept it. And the woman, Marcia, isn’t a receptionist. She is a full fledged therapist. I’m 55 and this is my first dui. I was sitting in my car in my own driveway. You,sir, are not special. Try to put yourself in their shoes. They have to try to help ASAP clients with bad attitudes like yours. Sometimes you have to shoot from the hip. Stop being a crybaby and don’t sit in your car drunk. Live and learn and watch that displaced anger. Be safe and God bless.
Mrs. Forbidussi is amazing. She is very knowledgeable and shares that knowledge so very well. I learned so much! She is easy to talk to and really understands what people go through. I can not thank her enough!!
If you have court ordered asap or just need help with alcohol and substance abuse this is by far the only place to go they do not treat you like an alcoholic or a drug addict they teach you about life and ways to cope with things so you don't turn to drugs or alcohol I would highly recommend them
These guys have got out of the way for me, and the staff is friendly. if you see them first and you have an out-of-state DUI, there's a possibility they can help you without going to ASAP
Don’t let a DOT violation derail your career permanently. Our experienced SAPs are here to guide you through the process professionally and compassionately, helping you meet all requirements while supporting your long-term success and recovery.
