Autism Spectrum Support Services
Celebrating Neurodivergence: Compassionate Therapy for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum
Is your child, teen, or you as an adult navigating the unique experiences of being on the autism spectrum? Are you looking for support with communication, social connections, sensory challenges, or daily living skills? You’ve come to the right place. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) represents a beautiful form of neurodivergence, and every autistic individual deserves support that celebrates their unique perspective while building practical skills.
At PIL Professional Counseling, we provide respectful, evidence-based autism support services that honor each person’s individual strengths, challenges, and goals. Our experienced therapists understand that autism is not something to “fix,” but rather a different way of experiencing the world that deserves understanding, accommodation, and celebration.
Understanding Autism Across the Lifespan
How autism presents differently at various life stages
Autism spectrum disorder affects individuals differently, with varying support needs that can change throughout life. Understanding these differences helps us provide the most effective, individualized support:
Autism in Children
For autistic children, we often see:
- Communication Differences: May develop language later, use echolalia, prefer non-verbal communication, or have rich inner language not yet expressed outwardly
- Social Navigation: Different approaches to play, friendship, and social interaction that may not follow typical developmental patterns
- Sensory Processing: Unique responses to sounds, textures, lights, or movement that can be overwhelming or under-stimulating
- Routine and Predictability Needs: Strong preferences for familiar patterns and difficulty with unexpected changes
- Special Interests: Intense fascination with particular topics, objects, or activities that bring joy and expertise
- Learning Differences: May excel in some areas while needing additional support in others
Autism in Adolescents
For autistic teenagers, additional considerations include:
- Identity Development: Understanding their autism diagnosis and how it fits into their sense of self
- Social Complexity: Navigating increasingly complex peer relationships, dating, and social expectations
- Academic Transitions: Managing higher academic demands, executive function challenges, and preparing for post-secondary life
- Independence Skills: Building daily living skills, self-advocacy abilities, and preparation for adulthood
- Emotional Regulation: Managing the intense emotions of adolescence alongside autism-related challenges
- Future Planning: Exploring career interests, college options, and long-term goals that align with their strengths

Respectful, Evidence-Based Autism Support Methods
We utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches that respect autistic ways of being while building practical skills:
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) - Respectful Approach
When appropriate, we use ABA techniques that focus on skill-building rather than behavior modification, always prioritizing the individual’s comfort and consent
Social Skills Training
Teaching social navigation in ways that honor autistic communication styles and preferences
Sensory Integration Therapy
Helping individuals understand and manage their sensory needs through environmental modifications and coping strategies
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - Adapted
Modified CBT approaches that account for autistic thinking patterns and communication styles
TEACCH Method
Using structured teaching and visual supports to enhance learning and independence
Family Support and Education
Helping families understand autism and develop supportive, accepting relationships
Our approach is grounded in the neurodiversity movement, which recognizes autism as a natural variation of human neurology rather than a disorder to be cured.
We work collaboratively with each individual to identify their goals and support them in ways that feel respectful and empowering.

What Amazing People Say
I’ve been working with Ashley for four years, and she has helped me more than I can put into words. When I first started therapy, I felt lost and sad but with her knowledge, compassion, and steady support, I’ve grown so much as a person. Ashley helped me learn how to navigate the unexpected and trust myself again. I’m more confident, grounded, and able to face challenges in ways I never could before. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and highly recommend her!
I have worked with Ms. Shawnta McMillon-Brown for a few years now, and I cannot speak highly enough about their service. They have been nothing but understanding and respectful in all aspects of my care. I would highly recommend their services for any sort of emotional or mental guidance. Thank you, Ms. Shawnta.
I just love Mrs. shawntà. She is a different type of therapist. I feel like I’m actually on my way to healing my past selves. I recommend her to anyone really looking for healing and understanding 🤗🫶🏽
When I hit a rough patch in life and was ordered to come here for the courts. I was upset and wasn't open to the idea but it was very needed and Ms Shawnta is amazing. I remember my 1st appt telling her I didn't need therapy and now 2 yrs later I'm doing it on my own(not court ordered)... It's nothing like having a non judgemental ear to hear you out and guide you.i highly recommend this place!
I am enjoying my experience with Sheila! It's refreshing when you can converse with someone who doesn't judge, listens, and gives you honest feedback! Since working with PIL, I am experiencing more joy and accountability from myself! Highly recommend this group!
Hands down therapist Ms. Erica is amazing therapist! I highly recommend PIL , I’m so grateful for their support and knowledge assisting my love one. PIL is a very professional facility and my love one felt comfortable and safe. Therapist Ms Erica provided outstanding strategies and coping skills for my love one. The office is very welcoming and comforting.
Once I started therapy, I felt I didn’t need it or it wasn’t necessary. It took a lot out of me to admit my feelings and take the steps to get better. Once I started my new job as a 911 call taker and I realized I still had some scars that needed to heal deep down. But happy to say I love my therapist and she’s very open with communication and everything I have to say. I would recommend this service to anybody. I really would.
I have had the pleasure of working with Ashley for a few years now. She has been consistently kind, helpful and professional during my treatment. I’m so grateful for the continued guidance/support and consequential growth.
PIL Professional Counseling is truly an amazing place. From the moment you make contact, you can tell the whole team is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive environment. They are professional, compassionate, and really make you feel cared for. A special shoutout to Ashley Dais, who has been wonderful to work with—she’s kind, thoughtful, and always makes me feel heard. That said, it’s clear PIL as a whole is full of counselors and staff who genuinely care about their clients. I’d highly recommend PIL to anyone looking for quality counseling with people who go above and beyond.
I have no trouble understanding the staff and it inspires me that they have accomplished so much. I’ve had a few therapists in my life, but none compares to the progress I’ve made with Marcia! I’d also like to respond to the fellow soliciting lodging complaints. I agree with your assessor. You should take the classes and try to learn something. Some things we have no control over. Innocent or guilty, the law is the law. That you expect things to go a certain way doesn’t mean they will. Accept it. And the woman, Marcia, isn’t a receptionist. She is a full fledged therapist. I’m 55 and this is my first dui. I was sitting in my car in my own driveway. You,sir, are not special. Try to put yourself in their shoes. They have to try to help ASAP clients with bad attitudes like yours. Sometimes you have to shoot from the hip. Stop being a crybaby and don’t sit in your car drunk. Live and learn and watch that displaced anger. Be safe and God bless.
Mrs. Forbidussi is amazing. She is very knowledgeable and shares that knowledge so very well. I learned so much! She is easy to talk to and really understands what people go through. I can not thank her enough!!
If you have court ordered asap or just need help with alcohol and substance abuse this is by far the only place to go they do not treat you like an alcoholic or a drug addict they teach you about life and ways to cope with things so you don't turn to drugs or alcohol I would highly recommend them
These guys have got out of the way for me, and the staff is friendly. if you see them first and you have an out-of-state DUI, there's a possibility they can help you without going to ASAP
